Welcome Laura Syron as HCCC Chair!
On behalf of HCCC and our members, we are delighted to welcome Laura Syron, President & CEO of Diabetes Canada, as the incoming Chair of the Health Charities Coalition of Canada.
Laura brings two decades of transformational leadership in the health sector, including roles at Diabetes Canada, the Arthritis Society, Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation, and Heart & Stroke Foundation. A seasoned strategist and fundraiser, she has led teams to success across research, education, advocacy, and community programs.
As President & CEO of Diabetes Canada—where she steers a $35+ million operation with a 100+ strong team across the country—Laura is advancing groundbreaking investments in scientific research and championing policy change. Notably, as someone living with type 2 diabetes herself, she co launched a landmark partnership investigating the mental health impacts of diabetes, underscoring her deep commitment to centering lived experiences in innovation (kidney.ca, diabetes.ca).
We are energized by Laura’s focus on collaboration, equity, and mission driven leadership. Her vision and skillset aligns perfectly with HCCC’s commitment to advancing a unified, powerful voice for Canada’s health charities. We look forward to her leadership in amplifying our collective impact across research, policy, and community well being.
Thank you, Elizabeth Myles
As Laura steps into the Chair’s position, we extend heartfelt gratitude to Elizabeth Myles, National Executive Director of The Kidney Foundation of Canada, for her exceptional service to HCCC.
Elizabeth has been a steadfast leader since joining HCCC in 2015. Her strategic focus on enhancing patient centered services, driving policy change, and strengthening our voice for the sector has made a tangible impact. Elizabeth has actively served on several national health bodies, including the Organ Donation & Transplantation Collaborative, Canadian Blood Services’ National Liaison Committee, and HCCC’s board, where her insights have helped shape coalition strategy and engagement.
Elizabeth—your visionary leadership, strategic partnership, and compassionate leadership have propelled HCCC’s mission. Thank you for your remarkable contributions as Chair. We look forward to continuing our work together in your role as Past Chair.
Please join us in celebrating Laura’s appointment and expressing our profound appreciation to Elizabeth. We look forward to an exciting year ahead under Laura’s leadership and Elizabeth’s legacy for the continued work of HCCC.
